What Can I do at home With my 5th grader(s)?
- Encourage your child to read 30 to 45 minutes a night to build up stamina
- Read WITH your children, which can expose them to higher level texts, challenging their vocabulary and decoding skills.
- Ask questions about your child's book like, "What is it about?" , "Do you like or dislike a particular character? Why?" , "How do you think it's going to end?"
- Help your child make connections between news and current events going on in the world and what we are learning in class.
- Look at a variety of text types with your child: short stories, plays, articles, schedules, instruction manuals, fiction, non-fiction.
